Oral health care considerations for patients with atrial fibrillation:

  • Do not provide elective dental care within 30 days after hospitalization for atrial fibrillation.
  • Assess and evaluate the severity of any comorbid conditions. (See atrial fibrillation, “Comorbid diseases and conditions”.)
  • Inquire about a history of stroke.
  • Address anticoagulation therapy.
  • Use antianxiolytic agents if necessary.
